3D Print Connect aims to clarify the often confusingly broad range of technologies within 3D printing and additive manufacturing, and make it clear that this form of digital activity, is not beyond anyone’s reach.

This type of collaboration between the UK and SA in relation to digital making and the disadvantaged is an interesting one. Individuals from the developed world have lost all connection with how anything is made. Out of necessity, individuals from the developing world remain in touch with craft skills and the concept of “gambiarra.”
This digital experience awakens disadvantaged communities in both locations to the possibilities offered by digital making and will be a tangible inspiration for them. As a result they will become more creatively and productively engaged in their societies. Therefore their digital confidence and capabilities will be improved by default.
3D Print Connect is a programme of webinars broadcasted to beneficiaries in the United Kingdom and South Africa; most will participate in the programme using their own technology (laptop, mobile phone); in South Africa we will host groups of 10 people in 3 locations to accommodate those who have no access to own computer / no access to uncapped data for live streaming.
The virtual nature of this project will allow all the participants to engage with each other over their own particular interests and enthusiasms, and will aim to form future collaborations and relationships.
The event takes place on 15th and 29th April 2021.
